FOREST FORAGE

“"An understanding of the natural world is a source of not only great curiosity, but great fulfilment... It's surely our responsibility to do everything within our power to create a planet that provides a home not just for us, but for all life on Earth."

 Sir David Attenborough.

Primary school age students across the City of Swan and Shire of Mundaring are invited to create a visually impactful A4 artwork depicting their investigations of this year’s theme, Forest Forage. Through this project, students explore the selected areas of focus to share their ideas for the creation of healthy, local ecosystems.

In addition to this Education Resource pack, school incursions and artist-led workshops at the Midland Junction Arts Centre are available to schools and homeschool students, to extend and enhance student learning and inspire a generation of changemakers.

All student artwork is celebrated in an exhibition at the Midland Junction Arts Centre and presented in an online gallery. Selected winning creations will be transformed into public outcomes such as street banners for the Mundaring and Midland Town Centres, spreading student’s environmental messages within their communities.

AREAS OF FOCUS

Wildlife* – Who eats who, or what, and when? How can we help all animals maintain access to their natural foods sources all year round?

Local Plants – How do local plants provide different food options across different seasons? Which animals do these plants support?

Safe water sources for animals – How can we look after our waterways, and help animals over the drier months? What do different animals need to safely access a water source?

Investigate how plants and animals rely on one another and create a unique artwork / poster promoting what we can all do in our local area to make a difference.

*Wildlife refers to undomesticated animals and uncultivated plant species which exist in their natural habitat, including all organisms that grow or live wild in an area without being introduced by humans.
