Over 1,900 primary school students in Perth’s eastern region have created their own unique artwork exploring local biodiversity as part of Mundaring Arts Centre Inc.’s 21st annual Environmental Art Project.
Midland Junction Arts Centre collaborated with the City of Swan to present a number of school holiday activities in October as part of their Nature Know-how series.
A series of three short video tutorials staring Angela Rossen Artist and Biodiversity Educator have been released for students, teachers and parents to learn about what biodiversity means in native gardens and the soil, thanks to support from the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries. The local artist, who’s practice “aim[s] to grow reconnection to and deeper understanding of the abundance, variety and sheer ingenuity of the natural world” also demonstrates some tips on how to translate learnings from the Mundaring Arts Centre education resources and videos, into an engaging artwork to be submitted.
Check out our school holiday workshops at Mundaring Arts Centre and in partnership with the City of Swan in Guildford, Ballajura and Ellenbrook during the September-October Holidays. Each of the workshops explores the theme of Backyard Biodiversity and equip participants with skills and inspiration to create their own entry for the 2022 Environmental Art Project.
The closing date for the 2022 Environmental Art Project has been extended to 5pm Wednesday 26 October 2022.
Floor decals created for the 2022 Environmental Art Project: Clean Energy Walking Trail were displayed again at the Conservation Council of WA’s Annual Conference for 2022 – Stronger Together: Collaboration for Conservation and Climate on Friday 2 September.

Gardening Australia featured Richard McDowell, aka Captain Quandong, a propagator, grower, and collector of Western Australian native flora. Take a look at his garden and meet his family including his daughter Esther, an artist who uses the plants in her art.
Local Artist Brenton See was featured on Gardening Australia showcasing his large scale murals that draw sit-specific inspiration from local flora and fauna species.
Local children created Plant Prints with Luke Morgan, Bird Baths with Kaitlyn Elsegood and Fantastic Felted Beasts with Heather Davis whilst learning about how each of these living things are important to their backyard ecosystem.
